The Hottest Summer Styles

By Amanda Cohen on July 13, 2018

I love summertime. The warm weather, trips to the beach, summer jobs (can I get a lol), July 4th, and more. However, one of my favorite parts about summer is the fashion. No longer do you have to wear layers of sweaters, parkas, long pants, gloves, ear muffs, etc. You get to show off your beautiful self by showing a little skin because, let’s be real, it’s way too hot to be all bundled up.

The only challenge is discovering what the current summer fashion is and how to stay on top of all of the ~hottest~ (no pun intended) trends! Well, it just so happens that fashion is one of my specialties (because I have a shopping problem). My love of fashion may not be good for my bank account, but it’s good for you because I’m passing on my words of wisdom to you! So, read on to learn about the hottest summer fashion trends!

Rompers/Jumpsuits

You can never go wrong with a romper/jumpsuit. Not only are rompers super cute and fashionable, but they are comfortable and easy to pack for any sort of vacation. Rompers/jumpsuits are great because you can wear them for any occasion and during any time of day (they even make pajama rompers). When it’s hot out, I like to feel unrestrained, so I usually opt for a flowy option for the romper/jumpsuit. You can’t beat the comfort nor the trendiness of these two high-fashion items.

During the day, I opt for a simple, light-weight, giving material. If I’m going for a jumpsuit, I usually like them really flowy, and therefore I usually wear a bralette underneath. This same “protocol” can also be used for rompers. If you are going for an evening look, go with a romper/jumpsuit that has more pizazz and shows off the beautiful shape of your body!

High-Rise Shorts (or Pants) and Crop Tops

The sound of this summer look may sound scandalous, but it doesn’t have to be. When I wear this look, I prefer to wear flowy shorts and a more form-fitting top, but there are so many different ways to go about this look. For one thing, it can be dressed up or dressed down. If you are going out to, let’s say a casual BBQ, you could go for high-rise denim shorts and a cropped graphic t-shirt. However, if you are going out to dinner with your family, you should opt for my go-to look. Make sure that the shorts are high-rise enough so that you aren’t showing off too much tummy (unless you want to, that’s just not my personal style).

If you prefer to wear pants, you can create the same look with high-rise jeans or, my personal favorite, loose-fitting or parachute pants. Do not be afraid to get creative with this look. Find a ~fun and flirty~ pair of shorts/pants or a cool top. This ensemble goes so far beyond denim shorts and itty-bitty tops that everyone wore to mixers in college. Showcase your style and personality by choosing specific colors, patterns, cuts of pants, and more.

High-Rise Bikinis

Recently, bathing suits have become even more of a fashion statement than any other article of clothing. From the evolution of the one-piece to the lack of padding in bikini tops, bathing suits continue to change and I love it. When I first saw and tried on a high-rise bikini, I was skeptical because of tan lines and the overall comfort I would feel while wearing the high-rise bottoms. Well, I’m officially a converter: I usually wear high-rise bikinis as opposed to regular-cut bikinis.

This particular bathing suit cut is extremely flattering and so in style. I swear I’ve seen every celebrity on Instagram post a photo of themselves in some sort of high-rise or high-cut bikini. Some of the bikini bottoms even boast a cute little belt (sounds bizarre, but I’m officially obsessed). Be sure to check out people like the Kardashian family, the Hadid sisters, Miley Cyrus, and more to see the high-rise bikini in action. Oh, and a final note, don’t fret about tan lines because they really don’t matter. Choose style over tan lines all day, every day.

You may be asking yourself, where does one buy all of these trendy items? Here’s a list of where to look so that you can look your best this summer:

  • Revolve Clothing
  • Shopbop
  • Frankie’s Bikinis
  • Solid and Striped
  • Hello Molly Fashion
  • Missguided
  • Nordstrom/Nordstrom Rack
  • Bloomingdales
  • Xenia Boutique
  • LF Clothing
  • Forever 21

Don’t sell yourself short this summer: you can and will look your best if you stay on top of the fashion trends I listed above. However, never forget to stay true to your personality and your own unique style. Fashion should be used to express one’s self and show off your individuality. Take these trends and fly with it! Happy shopping and happy summer my friends!
